Calories in Indian food
290 home-cooked Indian dishes and 114 restaurant versions, by the katori, piece or plate you actually eat - with protein, carbs and fat. Each one is worked out from its recipe, ingredient by ingredient.
Festive season: Diwali sweets, calories in every piece - kaju katli, ladoos, soan papdi, jalebi and more, lightest first.
Home-cooked against eating out
The same dish usually costs more calories in a restaurant: mostly because the serving is bigger, and partly because there is more oil, butter and cream in it. Here is each part, in kcal. A few restaurant recipes are lighter than the home one for the same amount, and the table shows that too.

How these numbers are worked out
Every dish starts from a recipe: the ingredients and how much of each go into a pot, and what the pot weighs once cooked. The calories, protein, carbs and fat of those ingredients come from USDA FoodData Central, matched to plain, unfortified foods. Restaurant versions use restaurant recipes and servings, with the extra fat restaurants add. They are careful estimates, not lab measurements of your plate. More about where the numbers come from.
